28 Hours of Starvation = Notre Dame THINKfast 2010

That's what happened this weekend. Yours truly starved himself for a GOOD solid 28 hours for Notre Dame's "THINKfast".
The goal of this .. "Self - Starvation" was to experience what starving families live through on a daily basis. It gave Notre Dame students (Myself included) a chance to appreciate what it's like to have the wealthy amount of opportunity and potential we have due to the fortunate circumstances we were born with.

Every 4 - 6 Hours we were given cracker and juice breaks. This was to avoid fainting and to keep us healthy and alive. (after all... Starvation does TERRIBLE things to the human body). Other than that though, everything else was deemed "Illegal". I have come to the conclusion that although it seems easy to refrain from eating, speaking from someone who LITERALLY eats every other hour; I found it to be an EXTREME challenge even WITH the breaks. Despite nearly losing my sanity, I had an overall fun time at the school as we used the ENTIRE building for a capture the flag game & a man hunt game.

However, there was ONE activity that stuck out in my mind that made me flashback to the
Carnival Freedom's "Club 02".
We played a photo scavenger hunt in which we went from station to station solving problems and performing tasks in which we had to take pictures of ourselves competing them. This brought me back to the scavenger hunt the "Club 02" organized in which we had to go around the 12 floors of the ship to find random items and bring them back. This also reminded me of the first few times me and my girlfriend Abigail bonded and had a moment together.

At the end of the day it was fun, and the starvation was well worth it as after the bowling, staying up with the boys until 4:30AM and attempting to sleep on hard gym floor, playing basketball in my PJ's, as well as playing bass while my friend Emily playing her electric guitar that we had a pizza buffet in which I completely consumed 3 LARGE slices in under a few minutes.

It was a unique experience and despite many of the negatives that went along with starving, I would honestly not mind doing it again as it was for a good and pure cause.

Experiments with Styles

I finally got to watch the second installment in the Twilight Saga series "New Moon" a few days ago. My mom had purchased it on DVD while we were out shopping at Wal Mart (That's right.. I shop at Wal Mart.)

After hearing what everyone else had said about it, I was nothing but excited to finally see it myself. The first movie had done such a horrible job in my opinion interpreting the book that I could only hope that they would learn from their mistakes the second time around.

I was right. To my relief they were able to redeem themselves with a much better job. I was relieved to have finally seen it, because they have already put out a trailer for the third movie "Eclipse" which only looks better.
Anyways, the point of this post is to bring to light the new style I have been able to stem out of watching "New Moon"
Before filming, Robert Pattinson had cut his hair into a buzz cut and in the process destroying the typical "Edward Cullen"look.

I wasn't TOO pleased, as I actually liked it and had even gotten a cut much similar to it. Fortunately, his hair returned in time for filming and although you can tell it's different as it's shorter and less prepped it is simply a slight change and to some, the change is seemingly non existent. Yesterday one of my friends actually suggested that I put my hair up in such a style, similar to his hair as I was talking about the different styles I might try.

It turned out looking better than expected and by the end of the day I came to the conclusion that I would keep this style for when I have extra curricular activities such as Tae Kwon Do and Basketball that keep me active so that I won't have to worry about my bangs betting in my face.

Don't be afraid to let me know what you think and send me links of styles you think would suit me!
You're opinion is wanted! Can't wait to read responses!

Do you believe in Hallucinations?

This right now has to be one of my all time favorite music videos.
It even has the potential to be the best of all time.
I am probably one of the biggest Angels & Airwaves fan you will ever meet.

Their music has literally saved my life. (Details are too personal for now... )
This is the FIRST music video off their latest studio album

"LOVE" will be Tom Delonge's third studio effort with Angels & Airwaves.
This is the first single off that album "Hallucinations"
To me this is their best music video to date. They keep getting better in terms of their ideas and epic sound landscapes. This video can be found on my youtube account.

Youtube Musician

As you may have come to realize (All you have to do is follow my blogs and read up on my posts to figure this one out), I am a music junkie. Music is my life, it is my passion and I love everything about it. Whether it's listening to a studio album, a live album, going to a concert, or even just playing it; music is a permanent part of my life.

No matter what I'm going through in life, music is always there to give me unbiased, trustworthy, reliable support. One of the things that I am extremely drawn towards along with catchy melodies and hooks are deep, moving and inspirational lyrics. Even if it's simply poetic and the way they singer presents his/ her lyrics that sound beautiful, because in my opinion: Lyrics are one of the most important tools a musician holds. It is with his words that captivates audiences and it is with those words that I am able to connect deeply with music and that is important to me.

With that being said, I am currently maintaining a musician youtube account. It is here that I post my bass covers as well as other music related videos, including V-Logs (Video Blogs) that I may do later on. I am also in the process of learning acoustic guitar, so I may plan on writing some originals soon. At the moment, I have a total of 8 covers up and you can ONLY expect more on your way.

You would be doing me the GREATEST honor if you were to check this out and if you like it, be sure to rate it and subscribe to my channel so that you will be constantly updated whenever I put up more videos. I'm also looking to expand my presence among the public so if you liked what I have on so far, do NOT be afraid to share what you like and I encourage people to SPREAD THE WORD.

Let EVERYONE KNOW AND SEND IT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

The Beauty of Sound

This piece was inspired by another piece given to be by my "Writers Craft" teacher.
We were told to collaborate with one of our fellow students to create a piece.

I did my piece with Krystal Kantz. You can check out her stuff through her blog: www.zombietea.blogspot.com.

We wrote separate pieces and combined them together to create ONE large piece.
Unfortunately, I do not have Krystal's part of our collaboration although I can say that when we put our pieces together it flowed beautifully.
Here's MY part and I hope you still enjoy it.

When you heard it sound in your mind, it as your life's perfect soundtrack.
In ever melody, every hook, every fill and bass line you see yourself,
your life spread across the track
that has been seemingly orchestrated for you alone.
Ringing in your ears,
you hear the chorus.
Leading you to the next verse
but leaving you
on the edge,
like a sour joke
on the tip of your tongue.
It took you seemingly forever
to fully understand it,
but it only took seconds
for the song to hypnotize.

How your voice sounds on paper

We were only given one line. This one line had universal interpretations. For this entry we had to take this one line and make a story, changing it's point of view after a certain time limit of writing. These points of views included writing for an elderly person, a person living a thug life, a young child as well as an average teenager. This was a challenge for me as I had to take the point of view of several "characters" in the span of one writing piece.

The line given to us was "After Oscar died, I was so depressed that I thought about crawling into a hold and disappearing forever."

This was how I finished it. Every "/" will represent a change in the audience I am writing for.
See (If your bored enough) if you can spot which section is for which "point of view".
(The first section was writing normally with our own writing style)

After Oscar died, I was so depressed that I thought about crawling into a hold and disappearing forever. Nothing seemed matter anymore. Oscar was the only symbol of hope in my world. / His ideals reflected upon his character. If you were to observe his wardrobe, you would see class, royalty, and respect. / My mom told me that things happen for a reason. I couldn't believe her. I couldn't think of a reason for Oscar's death; it was unfair. / Oscar had all the makings of a true thug. Troubled family, and a run away dad from birth. If you wanted to talk to someone who lived through real struggle, it was Oscar. / I had never cared so much about someone as I had for Oscar. He was the only outlet in which I could place my problems in and he would make them disappear. He seemingly whited out my problems without effort.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

What do you see when you look upon my generation?
Do you see the good? Do you see nothing but bad things?
Or perhaps, you see a mix of both?
Do you hold hope for us?
When I was a child I used to see teenagers walk the streets
I would think to myself one day I would join them
I would become someone.

Years later, I've come to realize
How reality twists our blurry vision.
I am a teenager, and I look at the youth of today.
I see corruption.
I smell destruction
I hear damnation
I can taste the change in the winds of the new generations after me.

Our generation has found a way
To corrupt purity that is music
Destroy the beauty of writing and poetry
In replace of something flashy with a dollar sign.
Love is tossed around like anyones business
There is no meaning anymore
Only words and how they sound.

When I think of Teen Spirit
I think of High School
I've been here for four FULL years
I've made countless friends
lost countless more
Drama like I had never dreamed of
Love like I had never imagined
Experiences that I never thought I'd be lucky enough to have
Four years of my life I can never take back.
They've taken me
Changed me
I will never be the same.

Yet,
When I leave.
You won't remember a thing about me.
Nothing will stand out.
There will be no flashbacks,
No reunions, no communication.
I will cease to exist to you.
There will be no legacy left behind.
Simply a name, and an empty space
For the next generation to fill in.

Jersey Boys

Today was in my opinion, what I will call an experimental day.

I found myself in a setting I don't usually find myself in surrounded by people I hardly knew or barely spent time with before.
Today I had a school trip that lasted the whole day, as the trip took me to Toronto to see a musical. I wouldn't get back until about 6ish in the evening. When I had first arrived at school in the morning I was unsure about how else was going. The teacher organizing the trip had invited my drama class and that was how I learned of the trip, although I was unsure about the others in my class whether or not they wanted to go as well. The group left at 11AM which meant that I spent my morning in my first two periods (Archaeology & Challenge and Change) before leaving to meet up with the bus. I figured out later that NO ONE else from my drama class had gone and it was just me.
However, I was not totally oblivious to the others on the trip as I knew a few people that were going from the younger grades. In addition, I had talked to other people and made a couple of new friends for the time being.
Before the actual show we had stopped at a restaurant for lunch. There were three choices to choose from: Pasta, burger & fries, and pizza.
I ordered the pasta, however as my hunger took over me and my newly made friends went around the table and like vultures we ate anything other people couldn't finish. After desert we ended up each consuming 6 scoops of vanilla ice cream to add on to our main course.

Jersey Boys was amazing. Nothing short of the word. It made me laugh, smile, feel proud, cry and so much more all in ONE musical.
That's a feat.
If it wasn't for the couple beside me that made me miss my own love, I'd say it was a pretty much excellent day.

Solitude

Solitude
Happy Loneliness
Inviting Confinement

Alone with one's mind and soul
Filling empty space
With heavy thoughts weighed down
By feelings of contemplation

By yourself
Feelings of happiness
Realization

While being alone
You realize exactly
How many people are in your life
You realize how many people
Mean the most to you

Unbiased Sight

A Birds eye view is a unique way of seeing the world.
There are many details of the world your eyes now have access to.
Details you would of normally been blind to.
We would see beyond the environment that we live in.
We not only see the pains we bear but also the pains of others around us.

We see a boy on Christmas day finding a puppy on their doorstep.
But we also see what the boy doesn't see.
We see the lonely man, who gave up his only companion
to a boy whose only dream was to have a dog of his own.

To take a birds eye view is to see beyond your world.
We see the unseen sacrifices people make everyday.
We are shown what our human limitations hide from us.

When we see Charity work, we see kindness.
A Bird's eye view allows you to see exactly how
corrupt leaders misuse what is given to their people.

Human eyes see a robber.
We see a homeless man providing for his family.

We are all blind.
A birds eye view gives us unbiased sight.
